A bank employee in Germany quits to engage in chicken rental business
A bank employee in Germany has quit his job to start a chicken rental business, according to Bild.

59-year-old Rüdiger Gertner radically changed his life five years ago — he left his job at the bank and began renting out chickens. According to the man, this idea came to him in his childhood.

“Chickens were always raised in our family. I realized that observing these creatures brings peace to a person. I wanted to share this feeling with others,” he says.

While the man started his business with four hens and a rooster, he now owns 20 birds.

“My girls — that’s what I call them, are very trusting — love to be cuddled and have become accustomed to people,” says Rüdiger.

According to him, the demand for chicken rentals has unexpectedly increased. “For many customers, chickens have become a real antidepressant — they chase away loneliness and bring joy,” emphasizes Gertner.

The business scheme is as follows: Gertner brings the chickens to customers with a mobile coop and teaches them how to care for them. Renting four birds for two weeks costs 220 euros — during this time, the eggs they lay belong to the customer. Discounts are offered for social institutions.
