It has been reported that a Russian Mi-8 military helicopter violated Estonian airspace near the island of Vaindlo in the Gulf of Finland. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
The Estonian military command stated in a statement announced in Tallinn on September 8 that the incident occurred around noon on September 7. According to the information, the helicopter entered Estonian airspace over the Baltic Sea and remained there for approximately four minutes without notifying air traffic control services during that time.
This incident has caused tensions between the neighboring countries. The Estonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned the temporary chargé d'affaires of Russia in the country and delivered an official note of protest.
The head of the ministry, Margus Saksna, described the event as a blatant violation of international legal norms and a serious issue. Additionally, the Estonian MFA emphasized that this year marks the third time Russia has violated Estonian airspace.
Previous incidents occurred on May 13 and June 22. At the end of August, fragments belonging to an unmanned aerial vehicle were found in Estonian territory.
Experts believe that such incidents pose a serious threat to the security of European Union and NATO member states. This increases the likelihood of disrupting the political and military balance in the region.
The Russian helicopter's violation of Estonian airspace has further complicated relations between the two countries. The Estonian side states that such actions are unacceptable and demands adherence to international legal norms.
This event may negatively affect political and military stability in the European region.
