Simon Leviev, known as the "Tinder Scammer," whose real name is Shimon Hayut, was arrested at Batumi airport in Georgia. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
The Jerusalem Post reported on this. According to the Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs, Leviev was detained based on an Interpol international search warrant.
His lawyer stated that he does not yet understand the reason for his client's arrest and emphasized that he has traveled freely around the world. Simon Leviev introduced himself as the heir to the diamond business and deceived women through the Tinder app, obtaining large sums of money from them.
He claimed that his life was in danger and that he had collected approximately 10 million dollars. In 2019, he was convicted of fraud in Israel and sentenced to 15 months in prison but was released after five months.
After that, he presented himself as a business consultant. Leviev's victims continue to fight to recover their financial losses.
In January 2022, Netflix released a documentary titled "The Tinder Scammer." It featured interviews with three women deceived by Leviev.
The film was viewed nearly 46 million times in its first week after the premiere, becoming one of the platform's most popular films. Additionally, in April 2022, the Spanish government issued an arrest warrant for Leviev for using forged documents.
Currently, investigations regarding his case are ongoing.
