Farmers in Zambia have filed a lawsuit against two companies linked to China. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
According to them, the collapse of the dam caused toxic waste to mix with the water, killing fish and damaging crops. As a result, the water became unfit for drinking.
The incident occurred in February and affected approximately 300,000 households. The US embassy issued a warning about water and soil contamination in the area.
The farmers who filed the lawsuit are demanding $80 billion in compensation and $20 million in immediate aid from the companies. So far, the companies have not commented on the incident.
The government has stated that the situation does not pose a serious health risk. However, this issue remains a significant problem for the local population and the environment.
Legal proceedings are ongoing, and a thorough investigation of the incident is necessary.
