A fire broke out at the large zoo named after A. Shilo.
According to the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations, two buildings were completely burned during the incident. Witnesses suggest that the fire likely started in the rear part of the zoo, where construction work was underway.
Emergency services quickly arrived at the scene. More than 30 firefighters and 10 pieces of equipment were involved in extinguishing the fire.
According to the "Baza" Telegram channel, the fire also damaged areas where some animals live. Specifically, the areas housing wild bulls, goats, and sika deer were affected.
There are reports that some animals have died, but this has not yet been officially confirmed. Residents living around the zoo reported hearing the animals' screams.
The Ministry of Emergency Situations announced that the fire was completely extinguished as a result of prompt actions. For reference, the Shilo-named Novosibirsk Zoo is one of the largest zoos in Russia.
It houses over 12,000 animals belonging to 790 species. More than 350 of these are listed in the International Union for Conservation of Nature's Red List.
