In Germany, a record result in potato harvest is expected in agriculture over the past 25 years. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture of the country and the Agrarheute publication, the potato harvest in 2025 is forecasted to increase significantly compared to previous years. Official reports state that German farmers plan to increase the potato harvest by 5.3 percent this year, collecting more than 13.4 million tons of produce in total.
Yield is 17 percent higher than usual, and the cultivated area has also expanded by 6.7 percent. Overall, the area planted with potatoes reached 301 thousand hectares.
An average yield of 44 tons per hectare is expected, which is an unprecedented figure in recent years. However, prices have not been as favorable for farmers as anticipated.
Calculations show that 1 quintal of potatoes brings an average income of 14.9 euros, but market prices vary from 10 euros to 24 euros. The last time potato prices dropped this low was recorded in autumn 2021.
The abundance of the harvest has had a positive effect for consumers. In July, potato prices decreased by 18.9 percent compared to last year, positively impacting the daily expenses of the population.
At the same time, due to the large harvest and falling prices, farmers are forced to direct part of the potatoes to livestock feed or biogas production enterprises. Officials have announced that price increases are not expected in the near future.
