The construction of the world's largest airplane has begun in Italy for the first time in history. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
According to the Euro Puls portal, this airplane is being specially designed for use in the wind energy sector and is named Radia WindRunner. The main goal of the project is to transport huge blades intended for the new generation of wind turbines.
The length of these blades reaches 104 meters, which is about 30 meters longer than the blades of conventional wind generators. According to experts, the new turbines will utilize wind energy much more efficiently.
They allow for the production of more electricity at lower costs compared to solar power plants and nuclear energy. However, transporting blades of such large size is a major challenge.
The blade structures cannot be disassembled or folded, and trucks cannot carry such huge loads due to road turns and narrow tunnels. Airplanes and helicopters are also unsuitable for loads of this size, and airships cannot carry heavy cargo.
Therefore, currently, the only practical solution is to build a completely new, gigantic airplane. Its height is equivalent to a six-story building, that is, 24 meters, and its length reaches 108 meters.
The total wingspan is expected to be 80 meters. Experts emphasize that this project not only solves the transportation problem in wind energy but also has the potential to usher in a new era in aviation history.
