34 officers deserted in Tajikistan in 2024
It has been reported that 34 officers deserted their posts in Tajikistan during 2024. This was reported by Zamin.uz.

The country's human rights representative, Umid Bobozoda, provided this information in his annual report. According to the report, a total of 107 criminal cases related to evasion of military service and failure to obey orders were opened over the past year.

Among them, 30 young servicemen were held accountable. Additionally, 34 officers were found to be deserters, and another 28 individuals left their posts without permission.

The Ombudsman emphasized that these incidents often arise due to harsh conditions, violence, disorder, and brutality within military units. In some cases, injuries or deaths during service also force young people to abandon their duties.

Local mass media report that investigations have been initiated by the relevant authorities regarding this situation. However, there is no official information yet on what punitive measures have been taken against the officers who deserted.

Thus, it is emphasized that necessary measures must be taken to resolve problems in military service.
