An incident that astonished hundreds of people in Italy has been uncovered. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
A 70-year-old man living in the city of Vicenza was found to have falsely claimed to be blind for nearly fifty years and illegally received a pension from the state. According to the ANSA news agency, he had been on the "blind list" since 1972, receiving over one million euros through pensions and social benefits.
During an investigation conducted by the financial guard, it was discovered that the man behaved like a healthy person in daily life. He was filmed selecting products at markets, paying in cash, moving independently on the street, and even working with sharp tools in a garden.
Law enforcement authorities emphasized that such actions are impossible for a blind person. Investigators believe the man deceived the state for half a century by forging medical documents and avoiding re-examinations.
He is currently facing criminal charges for financial fraud. During the investigation, authorities are examining how he remained undetected for so many years and who may have assisted him.
Italian media have called this case "the longest social fraud of the century." Experts highlight that this situation demonstrates the need to strengthen control mechanisms within the social welfare system.
