According to a new UNICEF report, 417 million children worldwide still live in poverty. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
The majority of these children reside in Africa and South Asia. In some regions, the situation is very severe, with 118 million children simultaneously deprived of several essential needs.
Additionally, 17 million children lack full access to any of four or more basic needs such as healthcare, clean drinking water, education, or food. The report indicates that the lack of clean water, inadequate preventive services, and absence of quality education are pushing millions of children into deep poverty.
This issue is especially urgent in low- and middle-income countries, where one in five children grows up in harsh conditions. At the same time, UNICEF notes positive changes in recent years.
For example, in 2013, 51 percent of children faced at least one severe deprivation, whereas by 2023 this figure had decreased to 41 percent. Experts attribute this to the protection of children's rights and the expansion of social assistance programs.
In conclusion, child poverty remains one of the most pressing global issues. While even the simplest opportunities remain a dream for millions of children, it is crucial to strengthen the efforts of international organizations and governments in this area.
