A major fire broke out at the Wang Fuk Court residential complex in Hong Kong. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
At least 44 people died in this incident. This fire became one of the most horrific events recorded in this area in the last decade.
As a result of the incident, 279 people have been listed as missing. Among the deceased is one firefighter.
The police have arrested three men suspected of manslaughter due to negligence in connection with this event. The complex was built in 1983 and was on the verge of renovation.
During the construction work, traditional bamboo scaffolding was installed, which contributed to the rapid spread of the fire. The city authorities had previously planned to replace the flammable bamboo materials with safer steel structures, but these works were not carried out.
Chinese leader Xi Jinping expressed deep condolences to the families of the victims of the tragedy. At the same time, this incident once again highlighted the necessity of reviewing safety measures.
