The embassy is assisting the Uzbek citizen detained in Pakistan
Staff members of Uzbekistan's embassy in Pakistan visited the Central Women's Prison in Karachi and met with the Uzbek citizen held there. This was reported by Zamin.uz.

This visit was carried out based on the citizen's appeal, and their condition and court proceedings are being carefully examined. It has been reported that the citizen came to Pakistan in December 2024 with their spouse, a citizen of the Maldives, planning to start a business.

However, in January 2025, they were detained along with their spouse on suspicion of drug trafficking and placed in prison. The court case regarding this matter is currently ongoing.

In their appeal to the embassy, the citizen emphasized their innocence and requested assistance. According to them, they came to this country trusting their spouse's false promises and have no connection to drug trafficking.

Following this, embassy staff have met with the citizen several times, studied the investigation details, and continue to monitor the court proceedings. It has been noted that the diplomats' involvement ensures an impartial approach to the case.

To improve the citizen's defense, consular advice has been provided and a new lawyer has been hired. Due to the initial lawyer's inadequate performance, a new defender was engaged, who stated that the citizen has a high chance of release.

Additionally, with the help of active compatriots, the citizen has been supplied with food, clothing, and financial support. Embassy staff have also held negotiations with prison administration to discuss expanding the citizen's rights, communication with relatives, meetings with the lawyer, and access to medical services.

Moreover, possibilities for returning the citizen to Uzbekistan in the near future have also been considered.
