The German government has decided to accept 535 Afghan citizens by the end of 2023. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
This decision is based on humanitarian principles and was approved by the country's Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt. Among these citizens are local staff who have cooperated with German state institutions, representatives of international non-governmental organizations, human rights defenders, and individuals who have fought for women's rights.
They have lived under the threat of persecution and death in Afghanistan. The urgency of the situation lies in the fact that Pakistani officials are demanding that these citizens be evacuated to Germany by the end of December.
Otherwise, they face the threat of deportation back to Afghanistan. Currently, nearly 1,800 Afghans are waiting in Pakistan for evacuation, but political and technical obstacles are slowing down the process.
At the same time, the new government in Germany has decided to reduce humanitarian programs. In some cases, Afghan activists have been denied due to a lack of political interest.
However, more than 250 public organizations in the country have called on the government to be firmer on this issue by sending an open letter. They emphasize that delays in this life-related matter could lead to death.
Germany's decision to accept 535 individuals is a beacon of hope for many people and will enable them to continue their lives in a safe environment in the future.
