Initial investigation results regarding the killing of Mario Pineyda, a player of one of the country's famous clubs — "Barcelona," have been announced. It was reported that two suspects in the crime were detained by law enforcement agencies.
The footballer's death was confirmed on Wednesday, and the incident caused a significant resonance throughout the country. According to initial reports from the media, two unknown individuals riding a motorcycle fired shots at the footballer, his wife, and his mother as they were leaving a store.
As a result, Mario Pineyda and his wife died at the scene, while his mother was hospitalized in serious condition. This tragedy occurred in Guayaquil, one of the country's major cities.
The Ecuadorian prosecutor's office confirmed the arrest of the suspects. It was reported that sufficient evidence was collected against them during the investigation.
Additionally, it was noted that the suspects attempted to evade punishment. According to information, one of them was identified with the help of surveillance cameras.
Mario Pineyda had played eight matches for the Ecuador national team, providing one assist. At the club level, he also played for El Nacional, Fluminense, and Independiente del Valle.
