A tragic incident occurred between a train and elephants in Assam state in northeastern India. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
On December 20, in the Hojai district, a train heading towards Delhi collided with a herd of elephants. As a result, seven elephants died and another was seriously injured.
This area was not designated as a special corridor for elephants. According to initial information, the train driver applied emergency brakes as soon as he saw the animals.
However, frightened elephants ran towards the train, causing a severe collision. As a result of the incident, five train carriages derailed.
Fortunately, there were no casualties among the passengers, but the loss among the animals was significant. Following this incident, railway traffic was temporarily suspended, and trains are being rerouted via alternate routes.
This event has been noted as another example of conflicts between human activities and wildlife. Experts are once again emphasizing the need to strengthen safety measures in such areas.
