Hundreds of dolphins are dying in the Black Sea. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
Hundreds of dolphin carcasses have been found along the coasts of the Krasnodar region. According to official data, the main cause of this ecological disaster was an oil spill.
Reports indicate that 688 dolphins died as a result of the oil spill. Dolphin deaths sharply increased especially in the first month following the spill.
Experts emphasize that this ecological problem may have long-term effects. Studies show that toxins accumulate in organisms due to the oil spill in the water, leading to an increase in various diseases.
This raises the mortality rate of dolphins and other marine animals and also negatively affects their reproduction. Death cases were particularly observed more frequently at the end of October and in November, during the period when whales and dolphins come ashore.
On December 15, 2024, the tankers “Volgoneft-212” and “Volgoneft-239” were wrecked in the Kerch Strait due to a storm. These tankers were carrying a total of 9,200 tons of crude oil, of which 2,400 tons spilled into the water.
This incident has been assessed as a major ecological disaster in Russia, and a state of emergency was declared. According to the Russian Ministry of Natural Resources, the complete restoration of the Anapa beaches polluted with crude oil will continue until the summer of 2026.
Experts stress that restoring the ecological environment in this area will require a lot of time and effort.
