A deposit requirement introduced for US visas for Turkmenistan citizens

Turkmenistan citizens are now required to pay a deposit ranging from 5,000 to 15,000 dollars when applying for a US visa. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
The information was provided by the US Associated Press (AP) news agency. It is stated that Turkmenistan has been added to the list of countries with additional visa requirements, and this procedure will come into effect in 2026.
The new rule applies not only to Turkmenistan citizens but also to several other countries. Specifically, citizens of Bhutan, Botswana, the Central African Republic, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, and Namibia will also be required to pay a similar deposit.
Additionally, it was previously announced that this procedure has been introduced for citizens of Mauritania, São Tomé and Príncipe, Tanzania, Gambia, Malawi, and Zambia. It should be emphasized that the deposit does not guarantee visa issuance.
However, if the application is rejected or after permission to enter is granted, the funds will be returned to the applicant. Furthermore, several additional requirements will remain in place during the visa application process.
These include mandatory personal interviews, providing the history of social media accounts, and detailed information about travel. Earlier, the US Department of State announced the temporary suspension of the Diversity Visa program.
