Scientists have identified a giant marine predator that lived during the era of dinosaurs

Scientists have identified a new species of ancient marine reptile that lived on the ocean floor during the time when dinosaurs ruled the Earth, Zamin.uz reports.
Researchers named the creature Taylosaurus rex. International media outlets are reporting on the scientists’ findings.
Paleontologists re-examined fossil remains discovered several years ago using modern technology. As a result, it became clear that this reptile differed significantly from previously known species and belongs to a distinct group.
Its massive skull, extremely sharp teeth, and well-developed jaw and neck muscles indicate that this reptile was one of the most fearsome marine predators of its time. Taylosaurus rex lived approximately 80 million years ago in the ancient inland seas of what is now North America.
According to scientists’ estimates, the predator was about 13 meters long. Such enormous size made it the absolute ruler of the underwater world of its era.
Experts believe it primarily fed on large fish, ammonites, and other marine animals. Its jaw structure was adapted for gripping prey firmly and tearing it apart with ease.
This discovery is of significant importance to science for deepening our understanding of ancient marine ecosystems and the evolution of ocean predators. The species is recognized as one of the most powerful and ruthless hunters in the oceans of its time.
This news opens new research directions for specialists studying the mysteries of prehistoric nature.
