Scammers in the US stole $68 billion in one year

In the United States, fraud-related crimes have reached an unprecedented level, according to Zamin.uz.
According to a study conducted by the Gallup polling company and the Coalition to Combat Fraud, Americans lost a total of $68 billion to scammers in 2025. This figure has been recorded as the largest financial damage in the country's history.
The data was announced by the NBC television network. As stated in the analytical report, nearly 15 million U.S. citizens—about 6% of the country's population—fell victim to various fraud schemes within a year.
Experts analyzing the situation emphasize that 12% of those affected suffered losses caused by crimes committed using artificial intelligence technologies. In particular, technologies that falsify appearance, deepfake video and audio messages—have become one of the most dangerous tools.
Additionally, fake calls made in the name of close relatives or bank employees remain among the most commonly used methods. Researchers note that the capabilities of artificial intelligence are opening wide opportunities for fraudsters to more easily gain people's trust and manipulate them.
Distinguishing AI-generated fake content from authentic material is becoming increasingly difficult. Therefore, experts are urging the government to urgently strengthen control measures against such technological threats and to improve public awareness of cybersecurity.
Otherwise, financial losses could continue to grow in the future.
