A unique Strawberry Moon phenomenon will be observed in the sky at the end of June

On June 29, the night sky will be illuminated by one of the most fascinating astronomical events of the year, Earth.uz reports.
Known in popular culture as the Strawberry Moon, the full moon of June will offer a unique and unforgettable sight for sky enthusiasts. Specialists emphasize that all conditions are favorable for observing this astronomical event.
According to astronomers, this full moon will be visible at its closest point to the horizon in the Northern Hemisphere. As a result, during moonrise, it may appear significantly larger and more impressive than usual.
However, this effect is not a true astronomical phenomenon but rather an optical illusion known as the Moon illusion, where the Moon appears larger near the horizon due to comparison with familiar objects like trees or buildings.
It is also worth noting that its appearance can be deceptive: in reality, this year’s June full moon is located at a relatively greater distance from Earth and is classified in scientific terms as a micromoon.
As such, its actual diameter is approximately 13 percent smaller than that of an average full moon, and the light it emits may appear slightly dimmer. This occurs because the Moon reaches the point in its orbit farthest from Earth.
Experts explain that since the June full moon occurs shortly after the summer solstice, it moves along a low path across the sky in the Northern Hemisphere, giving it a distinctive appearance.
In contrast, in the Southern Hemisphere, the Moon is observed to follow a higher trajectory.
Despite popular belief, the name Strawberry Moon is not related to the Moon’s color appearing pink or red.
This name originates from the traditions of Native American peoples of northeastern North America, who associated it with the time of year when strawberries are harvested.
Furthermore, in various cultures around the world, this full moon is known by other names, such as the Mead Moon, Honey Moon, or Hot Moon.
For astronomy enthusiasts, another important detail is that the next full moon—the Buck Moon—will be observable on July 29 of this year.
Therefore, those wishing to witness tonight’s rare and beautiful celestial spectacle are advised to look up at the night sky.
Such events serve as a reminder of the breathtaking beauty and mystery of nature.
