From September 4, 2023, legislation in the transport sector in Uzbekistan will be further strengthened. This was reported by Upl.uz.
The Senate of the Republic of Uzbekistan approved a draft law introducing new fines for responsible persons and drivers related to transport safety. Drivers who violate labor and rest regulations on international and intercity routes will be fined up to 2,884,000 soums.
If railway and metro employees violate safety rules, fines can reach up to 4,120,000 soums. The new law is aimed at increasing passenger and cargo transport safety.
According to data from 2024, 130 serious violations were recorded in railway and metro transport, resulting in approximately 4 billion soums in damages. Additionally, 38 accidents occurred at uncontrolled railway crossings, resulting in 11 fatalities.
The law also expands the powers of the Transport Control Inspection. Now, the inspection will not be limited to issuing requests but will be able to impose fines for identified violations.
These measures are part of a broader initiative to enhance road traffic safety and responsibility. Supported by the President, this initiative proposes that drivers who commit 10 or more serious violations have their driving licenses suspended for six months, and that discounts for early payment of fines for serious violations be abolished.
