BYD company has surpassed Tesla in electric vehicle sales

Intense competition in the global electric vehicle market is entering a new stage. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
According to the results of the second quarter of 2026, China's BYD company once again surpassed America's Tesla corporation in pure electric vehicle sales, becoming the world leader. This indicator demonstrates that the role of the Chinese automotive industry is becoming increasingly stronger on a global scale.
According to international publications, BYD managed to sell a total of 557,090 electric vehicles between April and June of this year. Meanwhile, Tesla, led by Elon Musk, delivered 480,126 cars.
The difference between the two major manufacturers amounted to nearly 77 thousand units, or 16 percent. It is noteworthy that although Tesla had the most successful second quarter in its history, this result was not enough to overtake its Chinese rival.
Analyses show that both companies are demonstrating a growth trend, but their strategies differ. BYD managed to increase its sales volume by nearly 80 percent compared to the first quarter.
Tesla recorded a 25 percent increase compared to the same period last year. By the end of the first half of 2026, the Chinese manufacturer is leading by a small margin, with BYD selling 867,479 electric vehicles and Tesla selling 838,149.
This competition is also very significant for the Uzbekistan market. Today, while various models of the BYD brand are becoming popular on the streets of our country, Tesla maintains its place primarily as a high-end segment.
Such competition in the global market serves to lower prices and further improve technologies. One of the main factors of the Chinese company's success is that it possesses a full production chain.
The enterprise independently produces its famous batteries, which allows it to control costs and offer attractive prices to customers. Tesla, on the other hand, maintains its advantage in software systems, the charging station network, and brand prestige.
BYD's activity has also accelerated in the European market. In particular, the company's sales in this region increased significantly during the spring months of this year.
This is mainly achieved through affordable models. According to experts' forecasts, more than 22 million electric vehicles are expected to be sold worldwide in 2026.
In conclusion, the electric vehicle market is moving from a stage of rapid expansion to a stage of fighting for market share. While BYD relies on scale and low production costs, Tesla prioritizes high technology and prestige.
For now, the global throne in terms of pure sales volume belongs to the Chinese company. In the future, the competition between these two giants is expected to continue not only in production volume but also in intelligent management systems and quality of service.
Ultimately, this creates a wider range of choices for ordinary consumers.
