The volume of natural gas and coal extraction in Uzbekistan is decreasing.

According to the results of the first five months of 2026, it has become known that the extraction indicators of primary energy resources in Uzbekistan have decreased. Zamin.uz reported this.
Based on reports provided by the Statistics Agency, the largest contractions were observed in the extraction of natural gas, gas condensate, and coal. At the same time, it is noteworthy that despite the decrease in the raw material base, the volume of processing certain petroleum products in the country continues to grow.
Specifically, between January and May of this year, 15.8 billion cubic meters of natural gas were extracted in our country. Comparing these figures with previous years, a significant decline in the sector can be seen.
For example, in the corresponding period of 2025, this indicator was 18.4 billion cubic meters, and in 2024, it was 18.9 billion cubic meters. Thus, the volume of natural gas production has decreased by nearly 14 percent within one year.
The downward trend also continues in the extraction of oil and gas condensate. During the reporting period, 261.9 thousand tons of oil were extracted, marking a decline in this sector for the third consecutive year.
Gas condensate production has dropped to 391.7 thousand tons. This indicates a decrease of nearly 18 percent compared to the same period last year.
Additionally, a sharp contraction was observed in coal mining. In the first five months of this year, 1.6 million tons of coal were extracted, whereas this figure was 2.5 million tons last year.
Despite this, positive results were recorded in the petroleum refining industry. For instance, the production volume of diesel fuel increased to 476.4 thousand tons.
Stable growth rates have been maintained in this direction over the last three years. The situation regarding gasoline production is slightly more complex.
This year, 502.2 thousand tons of gasoline were produced, which is more than in 2025, but still lags 11 percent behind the 2024 indicators. Overall, the figures provided indicate a decrease in raw material extraction in the energy sector.
Henceforth, primary focus should be directed toward stably meeting demand in the domestic market, reducing dependence on imports, and accelerating the development of new deposits. The growth in the processing industry will serve as an important factor in covering internal needs.
