Former Barcelona midfielder Igor Korneyev commented on Luka Modric's transfer to AC Milan and expressed confidence that the 39-year-old Croatian player will occupy a key position in the new team. This was reported by Euro-football.ru.
Korneyev emphasized that for a player of such level and status, it is important not only to be on the team roster but also to feel his significance. In his opinion, Milan has shown confidence in Modric as a key figure in the center of the field rather than as a backup player.
This means being a leader not only on the field but also within the team. Such individuals were clearly lacking in the team, Korneyev added in an interview with the Match TV channel.
Luka Modric joined Milan after his contract with Real Madrid expired in the summer of 2025. His contract with the new team is set to last until June 30, 2026, with the possibility of extending for another season.
During his time at Real, Modric won the Champions League trophy six times, became the Spanish champion (four times), won the national cup and supercup, as well as claimed the UEFA Super Cup and Club World Cup five times. With the Croatian national team, he won silver medals at the 2018 World Cup and bronze medals in 2022, and in the same year, he was awarded the Ballon d'Or.
