Zelenskiy: Ukraine relies on the system, not on an individual

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy gave an interview on the Piers Morgan Uncensored program with British journalist Piers Morgan. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
During the conversation, he spoke about personal security, scenarios for achieving peace, the status of Donbass, and holding elections during wartime. Zelenskiy noted that these issues are related not only to politics but also to the internal stability of the state.
According to the president, even if he were to be killed, it would not be a disaster for Ukraine. Zelenskiy emphasized that the state relies not on one person but on institutions and the system.
He also mentioned that information has been received about several assassination attempts against him by special services. Zelenskiy believes that Russia is trying to replace Ukraine’s leadership and is striving to achieve this by military or political means.
One of the most controversial questions during the interview was about the assassination of Putin. Zelenskiy did not give a direct answer to this question but stressed that even if the Russian leader were eliminated, the likelihood of the system changing is low.
He noted that the existing system in Russia could produce new “Putins.” Speaking about elections, Zelenskiy stated that if the ceasefire is maintained for nearly two months, he is ready to start consultations with the Verkhovna Rada.
However, it was also emphasized that under martial law conditions, society and parliament do not support holding elections. Zelenskiy said he does not want to engage in historical debates about the causes of the war.
He stressed that although Moscow may have found special reasons to make its decision, Kyiv’s main goal is to stop hostilities and achieve peace through negotiations. The president noted that reaching an agreement to cease fire might be easier than resolving long-term political issues, but he admitted that there have been no significant achievements in this regard.
On the issue of Donbass, Zelenskiy firmly stated that Ukraine cannot agree to give up this territory. In his view, this is not only a matter of geography but also concerns people, values, and national security.
In conclusion, during the interview, Zelenskiy highlighted two main points: on one hand, he stressed that the stability of the state does not depend on one person; on the other hand, he showed that in achieving peace, Ukraine will not back down from issues of territorial integrity and security. Although the world is tired of war, the path to peace begins with negotiations and a stable ceasefire.
