Former Zenit player Igor Smolnikov expressed his opinion on the possibility of Sergey Semak being relieved of his head coach position. This was reported by Euro-football.ru.
According to him, it is wrong to speak negatively about Semak, as he has led Zenit to consecutive championships six times. In Smolnikov's view, there is currently no basis for dismissing Semak from his position.
Smolnikov also emphasized that Zenit is the main favorite of the current Russian championship. It should be noted that Sergey Semak has been leading the Zenit team since 2018.
Under his leadership, the St. Petersburg club has achieved six championships in seven years. At the moment, after three rounds of the Russian championship, the Zenit team has accumulated five points and is in seventh place in the tournament table.
This result is average for the team, but considering Semak's experience and previous achievements, the team could rise to higher positions in the future. Therefore, the club management's decision to replace the coach is not justified at this time.
Zenit is still considered the main contender for the championship.
