Former Russian national football team player Pavel Mamaev expressed his opinion on the likelihood of a salary cap for players in the Russian Premier League. This was reported by Euro-football.ru.
According to media reports, this reform is planned to be implemented alongside strengthening restrictions on the number of foreign players. Mamaev emphasized that implementing such changes would require a complete overhaul of the entire system.
In his view, currently, high salaries are offered to attract strong foreign players to teams, and if a salary cap is imposed, it may be difficult to create equal conditions for all teams. Mamaev noted that there is no clear solution to this issue.
He also pointed out that many players deserve high salaries because they are considered the leaders of their clubs. Earlier, Russian Sports Minister Mikhail Degtyaryov announced that starting from the next season, the number of foreign players in the Russian championship is planned to be gradually reduced.
According to him, the main criterion is the "10+5" formula.
