Maksim Mitrofanov, serving as the Secretary General of the Russian Football Union (RFS), expressed his views on the impact of politics on football. This was reported by Euro-football.ru.
According to him, the situation regarding Israel is a clear example of double standards. It is known that Israeli clubs have not been excluded from UEFA competitions, despite ongoing military actions in the country.
At the same time, the RFS Secretary General emphasized that the organization does not want the exclusion of Israeli clubs. Mitrofanov stated that they do not want to exclude Israel but wish for Russia's return. “We want to emphasize once again that we do not want the exclusion of Israel; we want the restoration of Russia,” said Maksim Mitrofanov in an interview with “Match TV.” Russian football has been under sanctions from UEFA and FIFA for over three years.
This situation has significantly impacted Russian football, leading to restrictions and problems on the international stage. For this reason, the RFS Secretary General has expressed support for a fair approach to these issues.
They emphasize the need to separate football and sports from politics.
