Canada has been eliminated from the CONCACAF Gold Cup

Canada's national team, ranked 30th in the world football rankings, suffered an unexpected defeat in the CONCACAF Gold Cup playoff stage. This was reported by Euro-football.ru.

This tournament features the strongest teams from North America and the Caribbean. The quarter-final match between Canada and Guatemala ended in a 1:1 draw. In the 29th minute, Jonathan David put Canada ahead with a penalty.

In the 45th minute, however, the Canadian team was reduced to ten men due to a second yellow card given to Jacob Shaffelburg. In the 69th minute, Rubiyo Rubin equalized with a header into the corner of the net.

After the regular time ended, the Guatemalans prevailed in the penalty shootout 6:5. Guatemala reached the tournament semi-finals for the first time since 1996. They will play against the winner of the match between the USA and Costa Rica in the semi-finals.

In the other semi-final, Mexico and Honduras will take the field.
