Former USSR national team and former defender of Tashkent's CSKA club Vladimir Ponomaryov has put forward a proposal to reform the country's domestic championship. This was reported by Euro-football.ru.
In his opinion, the Russian Professional Football League (RPFL) should return the season to the "spring-autumn" system. According to Ponomaryov, this will help solve many problems.
He also emphasized that having teams from the second and first leagues play at the same time would improve the quality of the competition. Currently, the summer season is considered the most favorable period for football, but the championship has been temporarily suspended.
The "spring-autumn" system was last used in the Russian championship in 2011. Subsequently, the transition to a new system was based on various reasons, including the necessity to adapt to the European Cup season.
However, many promised modern sports facilities for holding games in bad weather have not been built. For this reason, Ponomaryov's proposal is considered important for the development of football and the effective organization of the season.
Currently, the long break in the championship is causing inconvenience for players and fans. Therefore, having a clear plan for the start and end of the season will make the sporting process more stable.
This, in turn, will help improve the quality of domestic football and strengthen its competitiveness in international competitions.
