A new type of wood called Superwood, developed by the American company InventWood, is significantly stronger than regular wood. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
Laboratory tests have shown that Superwood is several times stronger than ordinary wooden boards. Even when shot at in laboratory conditions, this material maintained its durability.
One of the company's founders, Alex Lau, explains that the chemical removal of the lignin polymer in the wood leads to an 80 percent compression of the material and the formation of strong hydrogen bonds. This process helps make the product thin, strong, and long-lasting.
Thus, Superwood achieves a strength level comparable to metal. Superwood is also considered environmentally beneficial.
Concrete and steel, which are widely used in construction, emit large amounts of carbon gas, while wood retains carbon. For this reason, Superwood is recognized as a non-harmful material for the environment.
Although Superwood does not compete in strength among construction materials, it is very suitable for strong exterior cladding, interior decorative elements, and military purposes. Currently, the company is using fiber wood, and in the future, it plans to use bamboo as well.
Company representative Alex Lau emphasizes that Superwood has successfully passed tests for fire and insect resistance. At the same time, British scientists are awaiting further research to determine the product's resistance to wet and dry climatic conditions.
