Since the beginning of 2025, Telegram has deleted more than 20.9 million channels and groups. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
According to the company’s data, this is the largest cleanup operation in the history of the messenger. Notably, on July 27 alone, a new record was set with the closure of over 402 thousand channels and groups.
Additionally, on July 3, large-scale blocking operations were carried out, suspending the activity of 314 thousand channels. Although the official statement did not specify exact reasons, such decisions are usually related to user complaints, fraud, scams, or illegal distribution of personal data.
According to Telegram founder Pavel Durov, the company has recently been focusing particularly on protecting the platform from illegal content and “doxing.” The messenger is also introducing a new rating system for users.
This system allows each user to see the level of their account. It was noted that this indicator may provide access to payment services or additional features in the future.
These updates by Telegram are aimed at improving the platform’s security and quality.
