Apple iPhone 17 will be sold only with eSIM in Europe
Apple had long ago started to phase out physical SIM cards for iPhone models sold in the US market. This was reported by Zamin.uz.

Now, according to the 9to5Mac publication, a similar update is expected to be introduced in the iPhone 17 lineup sold in Europe. The new smartphones will use eSIM technology as the primary standard.

Apple has required its employees in European stores to thoroughly study eSIM technology. The training course deadline for them is set for September 5, just a few days before the iPhone 17 presentation.

eSIM is a technology that allows users to activate carrier services through a digital module inside the gadget instead of a physical SIM card. Experts believe that removing the SIM card slot offers several advantages.

Firstly, it frees up internal space in the smartphone, allowing for an increased battery capacity or the placement of other important components. Secondly, the absence of an external SIM card slot simplifies the device's design and enhances its protection against dust and moisture.

The third aspect is that such changes simplify the manufacturing process and logistics, helping the company create a unified platform globally. According to The Information, the iPhone 17 Air model expected to be released in November 2024 may come without any SIM card slot and only with eSIM in all versions.

This change is likely to start initially with this model. Additionally, alongside the iPhone 17 smartphones, Apple is preparing to unveil three new Apple Watch and AirPods 3 Pro models.

There are also rumors about the development of the second generation of the AirTag device. The company is expected to present at least seven new devices this month.

In summary, Apple is entering a new phase by abandoning plastic SIM cards and transitioning solely to digital eSIM technology. These changes offer significant improvements in battery capacity, device protection, and global platform unification.

Now, the main question is, are you ready to give up the plastic SIM card?
