A major space program considered important worldwide is being launched in cooperation between Russia and China. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
Chinese President Xi Jinping introduced a new initiative at the 25th meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Council of Heads of State. He called on all SCO member states to join the project being carried out together with Russia.
This project envisages the construction of an International Scientific Lunar Station. The program is a joint project agreed upon between Roscosmos and the China National Space Administration.
According to the plan, the construction of the station will take place from 2031 to 2035. Wu Yanhua, head of China’s deep space exploration program, stated that in 2035 the station will be located at the Moon’s south pole.
This area will provide the opportunity to conduct scientific research within a 100-kilometer radius. This project will open the door to significant scientific achievements not only for Russia and China but for all humanity.
With the station built on the Moon, extensive research can be conducted in geology, astronomy, atmospheric sciences, and other fields. The idea of building an international base on the Moon was first announced in 2021.
At that time, this initiative was met with interest by many countries and experts. Now the project is moving into the practical phase and its implementation is expected.
