Disney has sent an official copyright infringement warning to the Character.AI platform. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
According to the Engadget publication, Disney submitted a “cease and desist” request to Character.AI. It stated that Character.AI is illegally using its copyright-protected characters, including those from the Pixar, Star Wars, and Marvel universes, in chatbots.
Disney emphasized not only the violation of copyright but also the risk of these characters participating in inappropriate conversations with young users. The letter noted that in some cases, chatbots may exhibit tendencies toward sexual exploitation and could be dangerous for children.
This negatively affects the reputation of the Disney brand. The Character.AI platform has previously faced legal and governmental scrutiny regarding child safety issues.
In some instances, teenagers have discussed suicide on the platform and subsequently taken their own lives. In response to Disney’s demands, Character.AI stated that the use of intellectual property owned by copyright holders depends on their consent and announced that it has removed the relevant characters from the platform.
