Alibaba's AI leader Junyang Lin has stepped down from his position

An unexpected personnel change has occurred at Alibaba, one of China's major technology companies. Zamin.uz reported on this matter.
Junyang Lin, one of the leading experts behind the creation of the Qwen models, a key project in artificial intelligence for the company, has stepped down from his position. This news was announced shortly after the launch of new small models named Qwen 3.5.
Junyang Lin had been part of the Alibaba team since 2019 and, starting from April 2023, had been leading the Qwen division. His departure has sparked significant discussions both within the company and among industry experts.
Chen Cheng, another participant in the project, stated on social media that this news was very hard for him and emphasized that Junyang Lin's departure might not have been a personal decision. Alibaba's Qwen models are currently recognized as one of the promising projects in the field of artificial intelligence.
Even Elon Musk has highlighted that these models possess high efficiency and noted the particular importance of their intelligence density. This change, occurring while the company competes with international rivals such as OpenAI, Google, and Anthropic, has raised numerous questions.
So far, neither Alibaba's management nor Junyang Lin himself has issued an official statement regarding this matter.
