OpenAI developed the Jalapeno chip to compete with NVIDIA

OpenAI, the creator of the ChatGPT project that sparked a revolution in artificial intelligence technologies, has unveiled its first proprietary microprocessor in collaboration with Broadcom Corporation, Zamin.uz reported.
This intellectual chip, named Jalapeno, was specifically designed for data processing and efficient execution of large language models, and is expected to become a serious competitor to NVIDIA's leading products in this field. The news has generated significant interest in the global technology market.
The Jalapeno project was officially introduced by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, company president Greg Brockman, and Broadcom representatives. This chip is not merely the next generation of computing hardware, but the first stage of a multi-generational new platform.
Developed from scratch in collaboration with Broadcom and Celestica, the device was created based on a deep analysis of the internal operating mechanisms of artificial intelligence models, ensuring more precise and faster system performance.
Currently, engineering samples of Jalapeno chips are undergoing testing in laboratory conditions. According to preliminary results, the new processor successfully launches even complex models that have not yet been released to the public.
Most importantly, the chip's energy efficiency — that is, its performance per unit of power consumed — is reportedly significantly higher than that of current modern technologies, which could help reduce operational costs in large data centers in the future.
According to OpenAI hardware specialists, the Jalapeno architecture is optimized to minimize data movement and balance memory and network resources, enabling the chip's operational efficiency to approach the theoretical maximum possible.
This partnership represents a strategic step for OpenAI to reduce dependence on external suppliers and increase the operational speed of its models. The new chip is designed to be flexible and compatible with all types of large language models.
OpenAI promises to release a detailed technical report on the processor's efficiency in the coming months. If initial trials meet expectations, Jalapeno could completely shift the balance of power in the global artificial intelligence infrastructure market.
For technology enthusiasts and developers in Uzbekistan, this news is significant as it paves the way for faster and more affordable operation of ChatGPT services in the future. The development of proprietary chips intensifies competition in the field and opens new opportunities for users.
