It allows Instagram users to adjust their algorithms independently
Instagram is working to make its content recommendation system more transparent and controllable based on users' interests, according to Zamin.uz.

Platform head Adam Mosseri recently announced that new ways to adjust the "Your Algorithm" feature will soon be available in the app. This update will allow users to independently specify which topics they want to see more of in their feed and which they want to see less of.

This was reported by Techcrunch.com. Instagram first introduced this feature last year, but now plans to integrate it into all major sections of the app.

According to Mosseri, the goal is to move algorithmic controls from a settings subsection into a central part of the user experience, thereby increasing human control over content suggested by artificial intelligence.

Several interface solutions for managing the algorithm are currently being tested. For example, when a user scrolls down in the main feed, a special menu appears that allows them to edit their interests.

Similar capabilities are also being considered for the Reels section. By swiping up on a video, users can express their preferences, or use special buttons under each video to either "show more like this" or "show less like this."

Instagram's leadership expects this move to respond to long-standing user complaints about the algorithm. Many users have been frustrated that the system excessively shows videos from accounts they don’t follow.

In the comments under Mosseri’s post, people continue to push for the demand: "We just want to see posts from the people we actually follow." According to ixbt.com, some of these features are currently being tested among a limited group of users.

Some features may be rolled out to the public in the coming months, while others might not survive the testing phase and could be canceled entirely. This initiative is part of Instagram’s strategy to keep users engaged longer on the platform and deliver only content they find relevant.

For Instagram users in Uzbekistan, this update is also significant. Local audiences often complain about random and sometimes culturally inappropriate content in the Reels section.

With the new feature, users will be able to filter their digital environment and retain only useful or enjoyable topics. In summary, Instagram is attempting to restore trust in the platform by handing algorithmic control back to the user.

If these trials succeed, users will have much greater freedom in choosing the content they want to see, which should improve the overall user experience on the social network.
