If you are intrigued by various colorful drinks in the store, know that they not only quench your thirst but also "attack" your mood. Scientists from China's Wenzhou Medical University have uncovered a link between sugary drinks and the risk of depression.
Scientific conclusion: sweetness does not always lead to sweet outcomes
188,000 people, 11 years of observation, and clear results. Researchers studied the relationship between drink choices and mental states among volunteers aged 37 to 73. Interestingly:
- Consumption of sugary sodas and artificially sweetened beverages increased the risk of depression by 14% and 23% respectively;
- Consumption of fresh fruit juices and coffee reduced this risk by 19% and 12%.
These results are particularly significant for those under 60. No clear link was found between sugary drinks and mental state in older individuals. However, coffee and natural juices also benefited the elderly.
If you change your drink, your mood will change too!
Another interesting aspect revealed by the study is that replacing soda with natural juice can reduce the risk of depression by 16%. This is an important choice not only for your body but also for your spirit!
Scientists warn
The authors of the study emphasize that these conclusions do not imply that "drinks cause illness," but rather highlight that even small changes in diet can affect mental health.
Zamin.uz opinion:
When it comes to healthy eating, we usually think about weight or sugar levels. However, this study shows that the question "what mood?" is just as important as "how many calories?"
Don't rush when choosing a drink. Choose something natural and beneficial for your spirit, not fizzy or sweet.
