The issue of protecting children in Uzbekistan from any violence and inappropriate actions is being further strengthened. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
At the meeting of political party factions held in the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis, this issue was presented for central discussion. The meeting reviewed the draft law "On improving the system of protecting children from violence".
Deputies emphasized that despite the reforms carried out in recent years in the field of child protection, some negative incidents have not decreased. According to data, in the first eight months of this year, indecent acts against minors increased by 36 percent.
This situation causes great concern among specialists and the public. The draft law envisages amendments to the Criminal Code and the Code of Administrative Liability.
In particular, penalties will be strengthened for indecent acts committed against persons under 16 years old using telecommunications and internet networks. Additionally, the draft law provides for a clear procedure for questioning children as victims or witnesses.
It is now emphasized that the interrogation process should not exceed one day and that attention must be paid to preserving the mental state of the children. The participation of their legal representatives or responsible persons during the interrogation is mandatory.
Faction member Sayyora Imomova stressed that the draft law plays an important role in protecting the rights and interests of minors. Based on the proposals made at the meeting, decisions were made to further improve the draft law.
According to experts, such measures will not only protect children from violence but also serve to increase the sense of responsibility in society (source: zamin.uz).
