Important steps are being taken in Uzbekistan to strengthen the fight against corruption. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
A decree was adopted by the President "On measures to further expand the participation of civil society institutions in the fight against corruption and support scientific research." According to this document, non-governmental non-profit organizations will now actively participate in the implementation of the rules set out in the UN Convention against Corruption.
They will establish an alternative evaluation system to additionally monitor the work of state bodies. This will serve to further increase transparency and accountability.
In addition, the Anti-Corruption Agency will submit proposals and reports to the national council annually by April 1. These reports will provide detailed coverage of the projects of non-governmental non-profit organizations, their research, and issues related to state funding.
Another important initiative in the decree is the establishment of a "Regional Research Center on Anti-Corruption Issues" in cooperation with the National Association of Non-Governmental Non-Profit Organizations of Uzbekistan, the "Yuksalish" movement, and the "Social Opinion" center. The main task of this center is to form a strict attitude towards corruption among the population, especially the youth, increase the activity of civil society institutions, and conduct scientific research.
According to experts, this decree will serve not only to strengthen cooperation between state bodies but also between the wider public and civil society institutions. This will help implement effective anti-corruption measures and reinforce the values of honesty and justice among the younger generation.
