Serious steps are being taken to reform the healthcare sector in Uzbekistan. During a video conference meeting chaired by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, issues related to medical education, training qualified personnel, and accreditation were thoroughly discussed.
Admission rates have increased by 4.5 times
It was reported at the meeting that over the last seven years, admissions to medical universities have increased by 4.5 times — currently, 25,000 young people start their education in medical fields every year. Interestingly, 40 percent of them are studying at private higher education institutions.
While this situation indicates increased competition and opportunities in personnel training, the quality of education and practical knowledge remains a leading issue on the agenda.
Transparency in assessment will be ensured
As the President noted, until now, graduation exams have been conducted by universities, but national standards and mechanisms for impartial assessment of knowledge and practical skills have not been established.
Therefore, from now on, the assimilation of modern diagnostic and treatment methods by graduates of medical universities and technical schools will be assessed based on a special and transparent system.
A National Center for Medical Assessment will be established
To implement this updated system, a special National Center for Medical Assessment will be established. This center will work in collaboration with internationally recognized organizations and ensure a strong connection between education and practice.
Additionally, all state and private clinics will undergo accreditation — this will allow for a clear definition of their educational and service capabilities.
Continuous professional development and unified standards will be developed
At the same time, the continuous professional development of doctors and nurses will be carried out through universities, specialized centers, and regional medical institutions. For this purpose, responsible parties have been tasked with developing unified qualification requirements and standards.
The editorial team of Zamin.uz evaluates these updates as an important step aimed at developing the healthcare sector in our country based on modern requirements. This serves as a reliable quality guarantee not only for sector officials but also for every patient.
