A man in Great Britain falsified a DNA test in collaboration with a laboratory employee to deny that he was the father of his child. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
He attempted to evade a child support payment of $125,000 through this method. This was reported by the Pravilamag publication.
The incident began when 31-year-old Chelsea Miller was abandoned by her husband, Sheldon, after their child was born. A few days later, Sheldon denied being the father of the child and demanded a DNA test.
Chelsea Miller agreed to this, as she was certain of her child's paternity. However, the test results unexpectedly showed that Sheldon was not the biological father of the child.
Doubting this result, Chelsea took a DNA sample from Sheldon's mother and conducted a test. The results proved that the baby was indeed her grandchild.
Further investigations revealed that Sheldon had paid the laboratory employee to falsify the DNA results. He had contacted the employee through acquaintances of his aunt to alter the DNA samples.
During the court proceedings, Sheldon and the laboratory employee admitted their crimes and were found guilty of fraud, receiving several months of imprisonment. Chelsea Miller expressed her dissatisfaction with the irresponsibility and low professional ethics of the DNA laboratory staff.
A similar case was recorded in the United States, where a forensic expert who had been active for 30 years falsified 654 DNA results, causing the state a loss of $11 million.
These events once again highlighted the importance of the reliability of DNA testing and the responsibility of laboratory staff
