Surgery continued during the earthquake in Kamchatka
The continuation of a surgical operation at the oncology dispensary during a strong earthquake in Kamchatka attracted widespread public attention. This was reported by Zamin.uz.

This event showcased the courage of doctors and the culture of prioritizing human life above any danger. The earthquake that occurred in the Pacific Ocean on July 30, 2025, also affected the city of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatskiy.

During the surgical operation, surrounding equipment shook, and monitors trembled. Nevertheless, doctors and medical staff continued their duties.

Each nurse and assistant performed their work responsibly and did not abandon the patient. During the operation, surgeons continued to strive to save the patient's life.

There were those who were firmly held to the surgical table and supported the equipment. During the tremors, the sound of metal objects falling to the ground was heard, but the patient was never left alone for even a moment.

The Minister of Health of Kamchatka, Oleg Melnikov, referred to this situation as "heroism in white coats." He expressed gratitude to the medical staff for their professionalism and courage in managing the situation.

It was reported that the patient was in the intensive care unit after the operation and that their condition was stable. The regional governor, Vladimir Solodov, approved the recommendation of the medical team for state awards.

He emphasized that the doctors did not neglect the care of the patient during the operation and stated the need to highly assess their courage. The head of the surgical department, Yana Gvozdeva, mentioned in an interview that since it was a laparotomy, the surgeons could not stop it.

Because leaving the patient in that condition would have been unacceptable both medically and ethically. She expressed her feelings during the earthquake: "This was the strongest earthquake of my life.

There were continuous tremors for five to six minutes. Our only goal was to save the patient." State awards are planned to be presented to Yana Gvozdeva and her team.

Their professional approach proved that it is possible to fulfill the duty of a doctor even in the face of any difficulties. Thus, the incident that occurred in the surgical operating room in Kamchatka sparked extensive discussions in Russia and beyond.

This event inspired not only medical professionals but also ordinary people, reaffirming that human life is paramount above any danger.
