Tornado destroys construction site in Antalya, four workers killed

A powerful tornado that struck late on October 26, 2026, in Antalya devastated a construction site, killing four workers. One.uz reports.
The incident occurred around 23:00 at a construction site in the Kepez district, where a 40-meter high tower crane was toppled to the ground, and two containers were completely shattered. This tragedy, which resulted from the neglect of safety measures despite high weather risks, is being thoroughly investigated by law enforcement agencies.
How the tragedy unfolded According to observers, the sudden vortex appeared during heavy rainfall and headed directly toward the construction site. Under the force of the wind, two containers, which were being used as temporary worker housing, were completely destroyed.
Additionally, a massive 40-meter high crane installed on the site was twisted from its position and toppled to the ground. This destructive force posed a danger to human life, limiting the workers' chances of survival.
Victims and injured During the natural disaster, workers were resting inside the containers, watching the football match between “Galatasaray” and “Fenerbahçe.” As a result of the vortex shattering the containers, four workers—three Syrian citizens and one Turkish citizen—died at the scene.
Another worker was hospitalized with minor injuries. The incident highlighted once again the need to adapt humanitarian and labor safety measures to changing weather conditions.
Prosecutor’s investigation and liability The Antalya Public Prosecutor’s Office opened a criminal case regarding violations of construction safety and labor protection regulations in connection with the incident. During the investigation, a total of four individuals, including the head of the construction company and responsible persons at the site, were detained.
Experts are currently examining whether construction work was halted in accordance with weather warnings, whether temporary structures met safety standards, and the short-term accountability of responsible individuals.
