Democratic lawmakers may be arrested in Texas

Due to the departure of the Democratic lawmakers from the state, there were not enough participants left to hold a session. Texas Governor Greg Abbott has instructed to locate, arrest, and return the missing Democrats to the legislature.

He accused the Democrats of bribery and called their actions illegal. The Democratic lawmakers have fled to Illinois, announcing that they will not return to Texas for up to two weeks.

Additionally, the arrest authority given to the Texas police is only valid within the state, so these measures are largely symbolic. Republicans are planning to gain five additional seats in Congress through the new district map.
