Zelensky and Trump discussed stopping the war
The telephone conversation between the presidents of Ukraine and the United States has attracted significant attention in world politics. This was reported by Zamin.uz.

On August 5, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky provided information on his official page about a productive conversation with U.S. leader Donald Trump. The main topic of the conversation was the issue of stopping the war.

Zelensky emphasized that Kyiv highly appreciates the efforts of the U.S. president for stable and long-term peace. He noted the necessity to stop the bloodshed as soon as possible and expressed full support for Washington in this regard.

He also mentioned that if Russia had not artificially prolonged the war, peace could have been established many months ago. President Zelensky informed Trump about Russia's attacks on Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities, and the situation was assessed together.

He also pointed out that the intensity of strikes from the Russian side is increasing. During the conversation, the two leaders discussed the sanctions imposed on Russia.

According to Zelensky, the Russian economy continues to decline, and this situation forces the Moscow leadership to seriously consider the firm position of the U.S. president and possible measures. The Ukrainian leader emphasized that new political approaches could have a significant impact on the future of the region.

The American side has not yet made an official statement regarding this conversation. Earlier, Trump had stated that a 10-day deadline—until August 8—was set to reach an agreement to cease fire between Russia and Ukraine.

He had announced that after this deadline, the U.S. would impose new tariffs and other measures against Moscow. Russian President Vladimir Putin, however, is not in a hurry to respond to U.S. demands.

According to a Reuters source, Putin has not ruled out the possibility of improving relations with the U.S., but emphasized that he is prioritizing military objectives. New political developments in the region are expected in the coming days.

Steps are being taken towards peace in Ukraine, and international dialogues and important political decisions remain in the spotlight of the global community.
