The US President Donald Trump signed an order imposing a 25 percent additional tariff on oil imported from Russia to India. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
Thus, a total of up to 50 percent tariffs will be applied to products imported from India to the US. This is considered one of the highest tariffs imposed by the US.
The White House statement emphasized that Russia's military actions in Ukraine pose a threat to US national security and foreign policy. Therefore, strict measures are being taken in response to the emergency situation.
India's import of Russian oil and its resale is strengthening the Russian economy and enabling it to continue the war. According to the Indian government, Trump's decision is baseless and unfair.
According to Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randir Jaysval, at the beginning of the conflict, the US indicated that it was necessary for India to maintain market stability for Russian gas. India emphasized that it was forced to import Russian oil due to problems with traditional suppliers, especially those directed towards Europe.
Moreover, despite being one of the largest trading partners of the US, India expresses its dissatisfaction with such sanctions. It has stated that it is ready to take necessary measures to ensure its economic security.
This incident may affect the economic and political relations between the two countries.
