August is one of the most important periods for those who enjoy observing meteors. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
In 2025, an interesting event will also occur for nature enthusiasts. The Perseid meteor shower is reaching its annual peak activity.
This information was provided by Yevgeniya Kravchenko, a senior researcher at the High Energy Physics Laboratory of the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology in Russia. The Perseids are a meteor shower observed every year, resulting from the collision of Earth with particles left behind by the Swift-Tuttle comet.
This year, the meteor shower will last from July 17 to August 31. The peak activity period will occur from August 9 to August 15.
The best nights for observation are from August 12 to August 14. During these nights, up to 100 meteors per hour are expected to fall.
Meteors can be seen with the naked eye; a telescope or binoculars are not necessary. The most convenient time is around 4:00 AM.
Additionally, the night of August 13 will present a unique view in the cloudy sky. The object resembling a white-yellow star next to the Moon is the planet Saturn.
If you have binoculars, you can also see Saturn's rings and small moons. Furthermore, after 2:00 AM, the planets Venus and Jupiter will be observed approaching each other in the eastern sky.
Venus appears much brighter than Jupiter. These events make observing meteors even more interesting along with studying the sky.
