New events are unfolding in the European political arena. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
According to Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, the conflict in Ukraine may soon enter a new phase. He emphasized that while the war has not fully ended, it is likely to freeze sooner than expected.
Tusk recently stated that he had been in contact with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. He mentioned that although Zelensky is approaching the situation cautiously, he remains hopeful and optimistic.
The Polish leader also highlighted that Ukraine is interested in actively cooperating with European countries in future agreements. Zelensky provided information about his conversation with Tusk on his social media, but did not disclose the key aspects of the discussion.
This week, the Ukrainian president communicated via phone with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, French President Emmanuel Macron, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, and other European leaders. At the end of the conversations, officials issued brief statements confirming continued support for Ukraine.
Attention is also being drawn to Donald Trump's mediation efforts. The European Union's Commissioner for Foreign Affairs, Anitta Hipper, specifically noted that Russia does not genuinely want peace.
On August 6, Donald Trump spoke with European leaders and provided information about the results of his special envoy Stephen Witkoff's visit to Moscow. The Washington Post, citing sources, reported that the preparation for a meeting between Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin is causing concern in Europe.
According to sources, while determination and discipline are expected from Trump, he is not attempting to exert pressure on the Russian leader. A high-ranking official in Ukraine expressed hope anonymously that if a ceasefire is achieved in the air attacks, even if there is no peace on land as a preliminary step, it would be a significant achievement.
However, he acknowledged that the agreements are merely tactics employed by Russia to placate Trump. The Washington Post source emphasized that trust between the parties has completely eroded.
Currently, there is both concern and hope among European and Ukrainian leaders. That is, how the situation in Ukraine will change in the coming weeks and how the positions of Europe and the USA will shape is at the center of attention.
The proximity of a real solution to the issue of freezing the conflict will become clear in the coming days.
