This week, the Ukrainian president communicated via phone with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, French President Emmanuel Macron, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, and other European leaders. A high-ranking official in Ukraine expressed hope anonymously that if a ceasefire is achieved in the air attacks, even if there is no peace on land as a preliminary step, it would be a significant achievement.
However, he acknowledged that the agreements are merely tactics employed by Russia to placate Trump. The Washington Post source emphasized that trust between the parties has completely eroded.
